Holocaust Remembrance Day. And More.
In 1821, Heinrich Heine, a German Jewish poet,
wrote “Almansor,” in which he foretold
the future, attempted annihilation of the Jews.
“Where they burn books,
they will ultimately burn people also.”
In 1933, the Nazis burned books,
Including many of Heine’s.
In 1944, Raphael Lemkin, a Polish Jewish lawyer,
wrote AXIS RULE IN OCCUPIED EUROPE, in which
he named “the destruction of a nation or of an
ethnic group” as Genocide.
The Holocaust. Genocide. The systematic murder of 6 million Jews.
In 1953, Ray Bradbury wrote FAHRENHEIT 451,
a dystopian novel of a future world in which firemen search for
and burn every book they find.
Goal: To destroy every book.
Why? “To keep society happy.”
Sound familiar?
On January 20, 2022, this headline stated:
“Florida bill to shield people from feeling “discomfort” over historic actions by their race, nationality or gender approved by the (State) Senate committee.”
Seriously? Yes. Seriously. . .
